SandBoxUtah: ABC News "Mia Love: black, conservative, Mormon, GOP House candidate from Utah"

Chris Moody:
"Amid the crowded field of House candidates across the country in 2012, expect to hear a lot about Mia Love, a Republican who is an African American and a Mormon and who  on Saturday defeated a handful of rivals to clinch the party nomination in the campaign for Utah's fourth congressional district. Love is preparing to face incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson. Victory in November would make her the first black Republican congresswoman in history.

A Brooklyn-born Mormon convert, Love is a marathon-running mother of three and the daughter of Haitian immigrants who came to the United States with $10 in their pockets, she says. Her mother cleaned houses and worked as a nurse at a retirement home while her father worked for a painting company, toiled as a janitor at a Catholic school and drove a school bus to support their growing family.

"I am a product of that hard work," she said in an interview with Yahoo News, "a product of the American dream."..." (Read more?  Click title)

SandBoxUtah: ABC News "Orrin Hatch praises Ron Paul and son Rand"

Rachel Rose Hartman:
"SALT LAKE CITY, Utah-- Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) raised some third-party hackles this month when he railed against libertarians during an interview with NPR.

"Give me a break. These people are not conservatives. They're not Republicans. They're radical libertarians and I'm doggone offended by it," Hatch said during a discussion in an interview released April 12 of the tea party groups challenging his re-election bid this year.

The former boxer continued: "I despise these people, and I'm not the type of guy you come in and dump on without getting punched in the mouth."

Those comments quickly blew up the libertarian blogosphere, especially after the conservative website  Daily Caller picked up on the interview.

But at a delegate open house here Thursday night, Yahoo News caught Hatch, who would benefit from libertarian support at Saturday's GOP convention, singing praises for libertarian-turned-Republican Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas congressman running for president.

Hatch was asked Thursday to comment on the current monetary system versus the one outlined by our "Founding Fathers." And without any additional prompting, Hatch issued his opinion of Paul. "I think that Ron Paul has some good ideas in that area and I do think that the Federal Reserve should be audited," Hatch said. The senator then defended Fed chairman Ben Bernanke as someone "sincere," "dedicated," "smart," and who makes himself available to Hatch, ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee..." SandBox Utah: ABC 4 "Brent Hunsaker - What will an attack on Romney's Mormonism sound like?"

Brent Hunsaker:
" I have been beating this drum for a while. I know. Perhaps I should move on. But despite what the Obama campaign says, I continue to believe that Mitt Romney's Mormon faith will be savaged in the months ahead.

Wow, did I just agree with Orrin Hatch? Sort of. I do not believe the attacks will come directly from the President. Instead, they will be left to the likes of MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell.

These are comments O'Donnell made in a radio interview done the last time Romney ran for president. To read the entire interview, click here....." (Read the rest of what Hunsaker has to say?  Click title)

SandBox Utah: ABC 4 "Fear of bath salts making a major re-emergence in the market"

Kimberly Nelson:
"SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It has been banned in 34 states, including Utah, but now with the DEA ban about to expire some fear “bath salts” could make a major re-emergence in the market.

Even though it’s illegal, bath salts have been found at many smoke shops here in Utah. Police have been trying to crack down on the substance, but it seems the law can’t keep up with how fast these designer drugs are being produced.

It’s sold as “bath salts”, and it’s labeled “not for human consumption”. The label also has a warning saying it is not safe to drive or operate heavy machinery after using the product. It goes on to describe this substance is placed in your bath water.

According to a recent article in USA-Today, the number of calls to Poison Control Centers nationwide involving bath salts soared in 2011 to about 6,138 from 304 in 2010...."
