SandBox Utah: KSL Utah "Utah politicians outraged at push to make Arizona strip national monument"

"SALT LAKE CITY — A push by environmental groups for a possible national monument designation along the Arizona Strip is provoking outrage among Utah politicians who say it will kill ranching jobs, permanently extinguish any uranium mining in the area and possibly derail the Lake Powell pipeline.

They also say the proposal is a harkening to the 1996 designation by then-President Bill Clinton, who made the sweeping declaration to create the Grand Staircase- Escalante National Monument, closing off for development 1.7 million acres of coal-rich country in southern Utah.

Clinton made the announcement with virtually no warning to Utah's elected leaders — a move that came during a re-election campaign, similar to the election timing facing President Obama..."

SandBox Utah "Street art festival covers walking paths in color"

"IVINS -- Tigers, astronauts and even Tom Petty covered the normally black pavement of the Kayenta Community this weekend.

The colorful drawings, drawn right onto the walking paths using chalks, were part of the Kayenta Street Painting Festival in Ivins. Described as a "performance art event," it hosted dozens of artists, students and professional street painters who competed against each other. Businesses sponsored the artists' spaces, and viewers were able to get up close to the pictures. Artists said it was nice to know art, particularly theirs, was appreciated in all its forms..." "CLEARFIELD — One hundred years has passed since the Titanic disaster, and a Utah man is helping make sure no other ship suffers that same fate. He's a part of a unique branch of the Coast Guard that tracks icebergs.
 
Members of the Coast Guard Ice Patrol have been braving the cold to mark and track icebergs in the Northern Atlantic Ocean since 1913. They say they've had a flawless track record.

Clearfield native Clifton Hendry, a marine technician and member of the Coast Guard Ice Patrol, spends his days flying over Newfoundland, tracking the icebergs...."
